Cain is used here how not to love. There are so many who live in word but in deed are murderers of their brothers. When we see our brother in need and have a way to meet that need but fail to do so how can we claim the love of God is in us? True love is seen both in speaking the truth to our brother and practicing deeds of love in our brother’s life. Jesus is the great example of how to love in deed and truth. If we want assurance that we are truly Christian, then let us love one another as Jesus loves us. The Spirit will move in us to this end.
