NCF Sunday Worship Livestream - October 15, 2023
The book of Isaiah speaks of God’s judgment but also the hope of restoration. As in Isaiah 1, we again have both of these in Isaiah 2. The chapter starts with hope. Hope comes not just on what we believe but on what we value; by setting our hearts on God and what He has promised for His people in the future. We can live this day in the power of the future. Our happiness can be centered in what God has promised for His Church in the future. If we do this, we will not be devastated by the outcomes of human pride. Those who trust in God and what He has promised in the future are able to possess the present and the future. C.S. Lewis put it this way: “Aim at heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’; aim at earth and you will get neither.” We cannot see the power of hope without humility.
