Sermon Title: “Courage for the Mission” (Pastor Bob)

Sermon Text: Joshua 1:1-9

Summary:

In Joshua chapter 1, God commands Joshua three times in just nine verses to be strong and courageous in fulfilling his mission to conquer the land so His people will find rest. How can someone be commanded to be strong and courageous? Joshua’s commission and mission was grounded in God’s Word. Joshua could only be strong and courageous if he knew God’s Word, talked about God’s Word, meditated on God’s Word and obeyed it in its entirety. He faithfully succeeded in all these ways and therefore was a successful servant and soldier in the Lord’s army! The people of Israel historically were not faithful to know, talk about, meditate on, and obey God’s Word. Due to their disobedience, they never entered God’s rest. It would take another Joshua to successfully lead God’s people into His everlasting rest.
