Sermon Title: “Astounding Things” (Pastor Bob)
Sermon Text: Joshua 3:1-17
Sermon Summary:
As children we could not wait to open our gifts on Christmas. The people of Israel cannot wait to stop wandering in the desert. They experience a mixture of anticipation, excitement and suspense as they wait to cross the Jordon River into the Promised Land. They saw God perform great miracles through Moses and now they will see Him do so through Joshua. As God parted the Red Sea through Moses, God now parts the Jordon River through Joshua. The Jordon River was overflowing its banks. This is not a little amount of water. Why does God do such an astonishing thing? He knows His people will need faith to finally find their rest. So it is with us. Spiritual rest always precedes physical rest. Trusting in God to give us the rest we crave takes faith. That covers the excitement, suspense and anticipation part. More faith, however, will be needed along our journey to find rest since God often opens His powerful hand one finger at a time!
Meditation: Isaiah 50:10
Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.
