Sermon Title: “On The Palm of His Hands”
Sermon Summary:
Though God will use Cyrus as his servant to liberate the Jews from exile and have them return to Jerusalem, Isaiah sees in the future a great Servant who will redeem the world. God gives His people a glimpse of what the future holds for the church. Because of the triumph of His grace, the church will expand so greatly, be so numerous, that it will surprise greatly the people of God; like a mother astonished at the multitude of happy children gathering around her. What shall accomplish this? - a love far greater than a mother’s love for her children - it is the love of God. He has engraved all our names on the palms of His hands. A mother or father may forget their children, but our God will not forget us. What encouragement this is to a despondent people who cannot see beyond their present distress to what awaits them in God’s glorious future. There is no room for anger and resentment over what we face in the present. Isaiah’s vision of God is true. God loves us more than we love ourselves, so we can rest in His mighty arms.
