Sermon Title: “God Afflicts and Restores”

Summary: 

We foolish sinners just do not get it. It is not this world with whom we have to deal, but is primarily always God. I hear often from those who do not believe that God is stuck on Himself. What they fail to understand is God-centeredness is good news for you and me. It means our unworthiness is irrelevant to God’s readiness to save us. Raymond Ortlund Jr. says we need to stop praying things we believe will make us happy—my spouse being better, children who behave, the ideal job and start praying “Lord, I just want you to be God to me. I want my life, with my problems, to show the world that you save sinners.” He continues, “remember that the cross of Christ was the gushing forth of the ocean of God’s mercies for stupid sinners. When your faith is weak, his love is strong, That’s the gospel. Believe it.”
