Sermon Text: Joshua 22:1-34
Sermon Title: “Uniting in the Truth” (Pastor Bob)
Summary:
Sometimes winning the peace is more difficult than winning the war. Joshua commends the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh for being faithful in following the commandments of the Lord. Once peace is established and life becomes easier we can forget the Lord and what He has done for us. When the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar called, “Witness,” the other tribes of Israel thought they had deserted the Lord. The other tribes were ready to fight a war with their brothers over it. They, however, first warned them in love not to worship falsely. They spoke the truth in love to their brothers in the Lord. When they found out it was not an altar for sacrifices but only as a witness that they serve only the God of Israel who is worshipped at Shiloh, there was great joy on both sides. The joy of reconciliation between brothers in the Lord would never have happened if someone was not willing to speak the truth in love.
