Sermon Title: “The Shepherd King” (Pastor Bob)
Sermon Text: Zechariah 9:1-10:12
Summary:
Jesus in his triumphal entry into Jerusalem fulfills Zechariah 9:9. The people shouted before Jesus, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Matt. 21:9). Zechariah refers to him as a king riding on a donkey. Usually when we think of a king, we think of someone who rules over his people. Jesus is often referred to as this kind of king in the N.T. Zechariah’s rendering of Jesus is a Shepherd King; a King who gathers his flock, caring for them, not rejecting them. As our Shepherd King, he does the total opposite of the false shepherds of Israel. Jesus puts the life of His sheep above His own so He can save them, feed them, and care for them forever.
Meditation: 1 Timothy 1:17 “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Call to Worship: Psalm 47
N.T. Reading: Matthew 21:1-11
