Sermon Title: Holy Spirit Powered Discipleship

Sermon Text: Acts 13:1-13

Sermon Summary:

During worship and after a time of fasting, the Holy Spirit spoke to the church in Antioch. The Spirit told them to set apart Barnabas and Saul for the work to which he had called them. The church obediently commissioned and sent out two of their leaders. The Spirit sent them to Cyprus where they proclaimed the word of God. During this time, Saul changed his name to Paul. Also, from this point forward, Paul became the leader of their missionary work. Barnabas began Acts 13:1 as the top leader in Antioch and Saul was listed last. However, in 13:13 Barnabas is only referenced in the phrase “Paul and his companions.” What a change!

This is the story of discipleship. God calls us to make disciples by investing our time, prayer, encouragement, and love into people. Like a proud parent, we should rejoice in the work that the Spirit has done in their lives. In doing so, we display a humility that was shown to us by Christ.
